The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar, the restaurant celebrated for inventing burgushi, has set its sights on Raleigh. The sushi burger bar has secured space at North Hills and is slated to open Monday, April 15.

The cowfish, a breed of fish that earns its name thanks to its odd horns, is the ideal namesake for The Cowfish, the unconventional restaurant that invented burgushi, a fusion of burgers and sushi that includes rolls created using burger components and sandwiches made with sushi ingredients. Our extensive menu also serves up sushi and burgers, with equal attention paid to each. The restaurant's first location opened late 2010 in Charlotte.

The Cowfish executive team has deep roots in Raleigh. Raleigh native Marcus Hall, who owns The Cowfish with Alan Springate, is a graduate of Needham Broughton High and North Carolina State University. Louis Camire serves as Chief Operating Partner.

"We have focused all along on Raleigh for our second location," says Hall. "The region's strong economy, prominent universities and its proximity to our first location in Charlotte were all major factors in our decision. I'm so excited to be back and blessed with the opportunity share our creation with my hometown. It really means a lot to have friends and family rally behind us and cheer us on!

Springate adds, "Our expansion to Raleigh was a very easy decision. Our new North Hills location is the ideal spot to introduce Raleigh to our exceptional service and dedication to providing an overall great dining experience."

Food lovers are not the only ones who have embraced The Cowfish's quirky concept. The inventors of burgushi have garnered mentions in Garden & Gun Magazine, Everyday With Rachael Ray, Lifetime Television, Us Weekly and numerous regional media outlets.

Cowfish Junkies, the informal name used to identify Cowfish devotees, will be pleased that the sushi items they have come to love, including traditional sashimi, nigiri and basic rolls, plus the entree-sized fusion specialty rolls, will be on the menu. The extensive burger offering boasts signature burgers crafted with beef, Ahi tuna, bison, lamb, turkey and veggie patties. All beef burgers are prepared with a half-pound of grass fed hormone-free and antibiotic-free beef. Other tried and true recipes on the menu will include Asian-inspired appetizers, soups and salads and the popular "Build Your Own Sushi Roll" menu where guests can customize sushi rolls.
